Guided tour of women’s history at the University of Vienna
Detailed Information
/
The muse has had enough! It was only in 1897 that the first faculty opened its doors to women. They had to wait for more than 100 years until a memorial in their honour was erected in the Arcade Court.
In the context of this special guided tour, the long path toward women’s enrolment at the University of Vienna is critically examined and current aspects of the issue are explored.
Particular attention is paid to female scientists and scholars of the first generation: Biographies ranging from Elisa Richter to Berta Karlik are presented while photographs of the pioneers dominate the Arcade Court.
