Individual tours, group tours, special tours and workshops shed light on various topics from academia, history and society.     Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

    You do not have to register for the following guided tours:

    • Public guided tours of the Main Building
    • Public guided tours of the Campus of the University of Vienna
    • Special tours at the Main Building: Alma Mater Rudolphina Vindobonensis and women’s history
    • Wednesday and weekend tours at the Botanical Garden

    Come to the meeting point for the guided tour shortly before the beginning of the tour. You can purchase tickets on site.

    Please register for the following guided tours:

    • All group tours
    • Tours for school groups visiting the Main Building
    • Special guided tours: Rainbow tours, Jewish history at the University of Vienna
    • Guided tours for families and accessible guided tours at the Botanical Garden

    The maximum number of participants for group tours is 25 persons. For school groups, the maximum number of participants is 30 persons.

    • Botanical Garden: Guided tours and workshops may be cancelled for safety reasons in case of
      • bad weather, such as storm or gusts of wind of 62 km/h or more, heavy rain, fresh snow, icy conditions or soft paths. Cancellation is free of charge.
      • force majeure: strike, war, pandemic, natural disaster, flooding. Cancellation is free of charge.
    • Other university locations: Guided tours may be cancelled for safety reasons in case of
      • bad weather, such as storm or gusts of wind of 62 km/h or more, heavy rain, fresh snow, icy conditions or soft paths. Cancellation is free of charge.
      • force majeure: strike, war, pandemic, natural disaster, flooding. Cancellation is free of charge.

    You will be notified of the cancellation as early as possible via the contact details you provided when you registered for the tour.

    Guided tours of the Main Building are available in German and English. The Botanical Garden offers tours in English on request.

    We only accept cancellations in written form. The date on which we receive the written cancellation applies.

    • Cancellation up to 14 days before the booked tour: 100 % refund
    • Cancellation 13 to 3 days before the tour: 50 % refund
    • Cancellation within 2 days of the tour or no-show: no refund

    Yes. The Children's and Youth Office of the University of Vienna offers guided tours for school students aged 7 to 14 years. The tour provides a fascinating insight into the history of the University of Vienna and the world of academia. Further details
