Teaching Award of the University of Vienna – "Ars Docendi" state award
The Ars Docendi state award for excellent teaching at Austria's public universities has been launched by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research, the national universities association Universities Austria (uniko) and the Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH) to emphasise the importance of academic teaching. The Award is to be granted biennially. The University of Vienna and its Students’ Union are called upon to submit nominations in a number of categories by 5 April.
In the context of this initiative, the University of Vienna has decided to grant an award of its own to the "Ars Docendi" nominees. This is the Teaching Award of the University of Vienna.
All teachers at the University of Vienna will receive detailed information about submissions by the beginning of February.
The University of Vienna can submit nominations in these categories:
- MINT (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology)
- Economics, business and law
- Humanities, cultural studies and social sciences
Nominations will be submitted to the relevant faculty / centre by 1 March. The nomination process will be coordinated by the faculty/centre management member responsible for teaching. In a second stage, submissions are ranked and placed on a short list, from which the best submissions are selected by a jury. The jurors are: the Vice-Rector responsible for teaching, the Studienpräses (officer responsible for studies legislation and affairs), the chairperson of the Curriculum Committee, vice-deans (one vice-dean for each discipline/category) and student representatives.
In addition to the categories corresponding to disciplines, nominations may also be submitted for innovative teaching approaches not tied to a specific discipline.
