Guided tour at the Campus of the University of Vienna

The site of the former General Hospital has served as the campus of the University of Vienna since 1998. A guided walk through the courtyards provides an insight into the diverse history of the buildings. You will learn about its use as a poorhouse, military hospital and maternity hospital, its use as university clinics and its current use as a modern science center for research and teaching. In this function, the campus of the University of Vienna is mainly home to departments of the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies and the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies.

  • Description

    The premises of the Old General Hospital have served as the Campus of the University of Vienna since 1998.

    A guided walk through the courts allows you to experience the rich history of the buildings, from their uses as a poorhouse, military hospital, birth house and university clinics to the modern centre for research and teaching.

    Guided tours in English can be booked on request.

    Meeting point: Karlik-Tor ( Alser Straße/Otto-Wagner-Platz)

    Public tours of the main building of the University of Vienna take place on saturdays at 11:30 am and can be combined with the campus tours. (Duration: approx. 90 min.)
